— I have never had any experience in taking internationally recognized testing of my knowledge of English. Apparently, when I found out about the opportunity to take TOEIC test I didn't think for too long. I didn't considered it not only as an opportunity to get a paper that states the level of my language proficiency but rather as a possibility to compare my actual level of English to the minimum requirements for business communication.
Even using English on a daily basis we are limited to a certain vocabulary and cannot fairly assess our level of language proficiency. Thus, for me TOEIC has become not only an assessment of my language skills but also a self-assessment of my position on a labour market in terms of language proficiency.
I had known nothing about TOEIC before I sat a TOEIC test but afterwards I realized that it is not just a language test, it is a tool to prove the ability to communicate in an international business environment. And I should say I was satisfied (though surprised) with the results.
You cannot know beforehand what you will need in the future and what you won't. Thus I wish you to use every opportunity that comes on your way. And probably TOEIC might be that magic tool that brings significant changes into your carrier or just gives you self-confidence.
